It doesn’t matter how much thought our time you put into creating your videos; If you're not marketing & promoting your videos the majority of your target audience will never see them.
We’ve put together some Pretty Vicious strategies and techniques you can use to market & promote your YouTube videos to ensure their success. They're tried and tested and work for videos from almost all types of genres.
1. VIDEO TITLE
Titles are a big thing and make the difference between them being widely seen & shared across social, or only getting a small number of views. It’s a good idea to do thorough #keywordresearch to find what people are searching for and then crafting a catchy title around that. Make sure you keep them short and sweet, add the year , include keywords in the beginning if you can and always use power words (best, awesome e.t.c) and try to evoke emotions (laughter, empathy e.t.c).
2. VIDEO TAGS
YouTube #videotags are an important factor for the organic ranking of your brand's videos. Tagging in YouTube works differently than it does in a blog post. If you’ve never paid attention to #YouTubeTags, now’s a good time to start. You can even go back and edit all of your old tags. Make sure you have a unique brand tag so that your videos are shown among other related videos, try using your keywords as a tag and find out which tags are getting the highest-ranking and use those too.
3. USE A CUSTOM THUMBNAIL
A good #videothumbnail helps you stand out in the related video and suggested video section. If you’re a Verified account user you can also take advantage of the custom thumbnail feature but be sure to keep the resolution to 1280 x 270 (minimum width 640 pixels), always upload in .JPG, .GIF, .BMP, or .PNG and keep it under 2MB. You should also try to use a 16:9 aspect ratio as it’s the most used in YouTube players and previews.
4. FOCUS ON BRANDING
If you don’t have a channel logo yet, you’ll need to get one. Pretty Vicious can also help with your #branding if you’re having trouble, so get in touch. However, you should also look into intros and outros. Getting a YouTube intro & outro video is easy. A YouTube intro is a 3-5 second clip that runs at the beginning to showcase your brand and of course, an outro runs at the end and can be as simple as showing related videos for your channel or asking users to like & subscribe to videos.
5. SHARE VIDEOS ON SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS
Videos give you the opportunity to create a community for your brand outside of YouTube & direct traffic from other popular social media/social networking channels. You can use a tool like #Buffer to schedule videos to be shared on your social media channels as well as take advantage of IFTT + Buffer integration to automatically share your newly published videos on your social media pages.
6. CREATE A PLAYLIST OR ADD VIDEO TO AN EXISTING PLAYLIST
A #YouTubePlaylist is a great way to get more views on your existing videos. When you are done uploading a new video, add it to a playlist (either one you create or an existing one). Make sure your playlist has a descriptive and meaningful name as well as keywords in the title.
7. USE CALLS TO ACTION
Customers need to be told about the actions you want them to take. At the end of the video, or even somewhere in middle, ask viewers to like & subscribe to your channel. At the same time, you can ask them to share the video with others who might benefit from it.
